Art Association of Palm Aire
If you are a member of Palm Aire Country Club, we welcome you to join the Art Association of Palm Aire.
The Art Association was formed within the Palm Aire Country Club in 1983 after the founding member artists had produced a number of successful art exhibitions at the Club. The first meeting was attended by 33 new members. Today this association has more than 150 member households enjoying the benefits it has to offer.
The Association’s mission is to provide a forum for its members to exchange ideas, improve their skills as artists, and learn more about the visual and creative arts community in Sarasota and surrounding areas.
Any Club member interested in the arts may join. Some members are artists working in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpting, wood working, photography, and jewelry design, to name a few. Other members simply enjoy the arts, and may find a new passion when they take a workshop.
Members have the opportunity to display their art in the “Member Gallery” of the Country Club during rotating shows throughout the year. The main event is the Annual Art Show held each spring. Participating artists are honored at a special “Artist’s Reception” and all members and guests are invited to celebrate this exhibition week at the “Art Gala” dinner dance.
Events are held on the second Monday of each month, from November through April, beginning with a Champagne Luncheon in November. A local artist or other artistic venue, such as a community art center or museum, is invited to make a presentation to the Association or to host a field trip. Examples of other activities offered include Association-sponsored classes in painting, woodcarving, jewelry beading and digital camera/computer workshops.
The annual Ruth Levin Scholarship bus tour, to a location outside Palm Aire, funds a scholarship for a local Ringling College of Art and Design student. In 2014 we toured the photography studio and gallery of Clyde Butcher, a famous photographer who uses unusual techniques. Lunch followed at a fabulous restaurant in Venice. Our final stop was to an artist's home, studio and gardens.
Application form also available at the Front Desk of the club or call Sandy Heerman, Membership Chair, 355--2507 or email [email protected]
